Wind mitigation inspection costs $75 to $175 in 2026

Most Florida homeowners pay $100 to $125 for a standalone visit. Bundle it with a 4 point inspection and the combined cost runs $150 to $250. The report documents roof shape, roof to wall connections, opening protection and other features, and by state law your insurer has to apply a discount for whatever it finds.

How we calculate this

Prices are for the United States in 2026 from published cost guides, checked September 2026. This is an estimate, not a quote.

    Middle $125$75 to $175

    Cost by inspection type

Standalone wind mitigation inspection$75 to $175, most commonly $100 to $125. A licensed inspector spends 30 to 60 minutes filling out the state form.
Wind mitigation plus 4 point inspection$150 to $250 combined. The 4 point covers roof, electrical, plumbing and HVAC age and condition, a separate question from wind resistance.
Reinspection or update$85 to $150. Needed after a new roof, new openings or any change to the features on your last report.
My Safe Florida Home programFree for income qualified homeowners in participating counties, funded by the state legislature. Ask before paying out of pocket.
Roof only inspection$75 to $150 on its own, sometimes bundled free with a roof replacement by the contractor who did the work.

    What pushes a quote up

Bundled vs standaloneA roofer or general home inspector already on site for something else often prices the wind mit add on lower than a standalone visit.
Home age and roof typeNewer homes built under the 2001 Florida Building Code, or Miami Dade and Broward's 1994 South Florida code, already qualify for strong credits, which can make the inspection quicker and cheaper.
Access and attic conditionThe inspector needs to get into the attic to check roof to wall connections. A hard to access or unfinished attic adds time.
Market and inspector demandCoastal counties and hurricane season itself see the most demand, which can push same day pricing higher.
Combined servicesPairing with a 4 point inspection, which many insurers also require, is usually cheaper than booking two separate visits.

Wind mitigation inspection cost by region

Florida is effectively the only state with this specific, state mandated inspection and discount program, so pricing and demand are concentrated there, especially in coastal and hurricane prone counties.

Why this $125 inspection is the highest ROI move in Florida

Florida Statute 627.0629(1) requires every property insurer in the state to discount the windstorm portion of a policy based on what a wind mitigation report finds. That is not marketing language, it is state law. The inspection itself, $75 to $175, is genuinely small next to what it can move: multiple sources below describe 15 to 45 percent off the windstorm portion of premium, with the statutory maximum going as high as 88 percent for a home with every qualifying feature.

    What actually gets checked

The inspector fills out the state's OIR-B1-1802 form, significantly revised effective April 1, 2026. It scores seven main features: roof covering, roof deck attachment, roof to wall connection, roof shape, secondary water resistance, opening protection such as shutters or impact windows, and the age of the roof. A home built after 2001 under the current statewide code, or after 1994 in Miami Dade and Broward under their earlier code, is automatically credited for several of these, which is why some inspectors say a newer home's report almost writes itself.

    Reading the real numbers

On a typical $5,000 a year policy with about half attributable to windstorm risk, sources below walk through scenarios landing on $300 to $600 in first year savings from even a partial credit, with stronger credits on coastal or high value homes worth $1,000 to $3,000 a year. The My Safe Florida Home program, funded by the state legislature, also offers free inspections and matching grants for qualifying improvements to income eligible homeowners, worth checking before paying out of pocket.
