What "free installation" does and does not cover
Retailers package tire labor differently, which makes comparing quotes tricky. ThePricer's June 2026 review of Discount Tire, Costco and Walmart found that a quote can include mounting, balancing, TPMS service kits, old tire disposal, state recycling fees, and later rotations and flat repairs, or leave some of them out. The per tire installed price matters more than the sticker price on the tire.
Costco's member installation at no charge is strong value if Costco stocks your tire and you are already a member. Walmart's $18 basic package is simple to compare. Discount Tire lists what its installation covers on its own page, and prices carry-in tires by region.

Why this costs more in 2026
Tires are heavy petroleum products that ship by truck, and state recycling fees keep climbing.
Fuel is the common thread. AAA's national average for diesel passed $6 a gallon for the first time on September 11, 2026, up from about $3.70 a year earlier (CBS 8 reporting AAA). Every truck roll and every delivery carries that. Some suppliers added freight surcharges this year. Ask how long your quote is good for.
