What the price includes
The bike, battery, charger and a warranty, usually 1 to 2 years on the frame and motor and 1 year on the battery. Assembly from a direct seller is often up to you or $75 to $150 at a shop. It does not include tax or extras the provider adds on the day.
Who charges this and how it is billed
You can buy an e-bike from a local bike shop or straight from the maker online. Shops charge more up front but give service and fitting. Online brands are often cheaper, but you may need to build the bike yourself or pay a shop to do it. The price is usually paid in full at checkout. Some stores offer payment plans. Keep your receipt for the warranty, and ask who fixes the bike if the motor or battery fails.
How to judge your quote
- Ask for the motor brand and the battery size in watt hours.
- Check that the battery has UL certification.
- Ask what the warranty covers on the frame, motor, and battery.
- A fair quote says if assembly, a helmet, and a lock are in the price.
- Compare the total with the range above: $600 to $8,000 per bike for most people in 2026.
Ways to pay less
- Buy last year's model. Brands cut 20 to 40 percent when new models land in spring.
- Check your city or state for an e-bike rebate. Several offer $300 to $1,500 for income qualified buyers.
- Match the bike to your ride. A $1,200 commuter is plenty for flat city trips under 15 miles.
- Buy a UL certified battery even if it costs more. Cheap uncertified packs are the fire risk.
