USPS sells insurance for mail and packages. Up to $50 of cover costs $2.80. Up to $600 costs $9.05. Above that, you add $1.50 for each $100, up to the $5,000 limit. Insuring $5,000 costs $75.05.

- The value you cover. The fee goes up in steps with the value.
- Over $600. Each $100 over $600 adds $1.50.

- Insure for the real value only. You cannot claim more than the item is worth.
- Keep receipts that prove value. You will need them for a claim.

USPS sets one national price for insurance. Every price on this page comes from USPS Notice 123, the official price list the Postal Service publishes. The prices we use took effect on July 12, 2026. Where we show a total, we simply add up the separate USPS fees, so you can see what one item costs all in. We do not add our own guesses or use a calculator, because USPS sets these fees and they are the same at every Post Office.
