Drain and fill or full exchange?

A drain and fill uses gravity to pull fluid out of the pan. Daily Car Tips says it only removes about 30 to 40 percent of the old fluid. The rest stays in the torque converter and lines. It is cheaper and fine for routine care on simple, older transmissions.

A full exchange uses a machine to push out nearly all the old fluid. It costs more but gives a full reset. Jiffy Lube's own page describes replacing the used fluid with new fluid that meets or exceeds your maker's specs.

Some cars should go elsewhere

Cars with a CVT, a dual clutch or a sealed transmission are sensitive to the exact fluid. For those, a dealer or transmission shop that uses the maker's fluid may be the safer choice.

Transmission fluid costs more in 2026, and quick lube labor rates keep rising with every other shop cost.
