A wheel alignment costs $50 to $200 in 2026
A four wheel alignment usually runs $100 to $168, and a front end (two wheel) alignment $50 to $100. Most cars built since 2000 have independent rear suspension, so they need all four wheels set. Dealers charge 30 to 50 percent more than independent shops for the same job.

Cost by type of alignment
| Front end (two wheel) | $50 to $75 in J.D. Power's figures, $50 to $100 in Groupon's 2026 retail pricing. |
|---|---|
| Four wheel | $100 to $168 in J.D. Power's and SuperMoney's figures, up to $200 at some shops in 2026. |
| More complex cars | Up to about $200. Luxury cars and some SUVs need special equipment or more time. |
| Deal site price | About $69 to $90 for a four wheel alignment on Groupon in May 2026, 35 to 42 percent under walk in retail. |
| Dealership | 30 to 50 percent more than an independent shop for the same alignment. |
| Alignment packages | Some chains, including Pep Boys and Firestone, sell packages that cover repeat alignments for a set time or mileage. |
What pushes a quote up
| Two wheels or four | Four wheel jobs take longer. Most newer cars need four. |
|---|---|
| Worn parts | Tie rods, ball joints or bushings must be fixed first, and that is billed on top. |
| Vehicle | Luxury cars, lifted trucks and some SUVs need more time or special equipment. |
| Tire balance | Balancing is a separate line unless you buy a bundle. |
| Where you go | Dealers charge a clear premium over independent shops. |
Wheel alignment cost by region
| Lower cost states | $80 to $135. Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia and most rural areas. |
|---|---|
| Average cost states | $100 to $168. Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and most mid size cities. |
| Higher cost states | $130 to $220. California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington, plus big metros such as Chicago, Denver and Washington DC. |
These rows are our estimate. We took the typical national range and adjusted it for local labor costs, which run about 20 percent lower in the cheapest states and about 30 percent higher in the dearest ones. Alignment prices track the shop's posted labor rate, so big metro shops sit at the top.
Do you really need four wheels, and is the lifetime package worth it
Ask what the car needs before you pay for more. A front end alignment only sets the front axle. Groupon's 2026 guide notes that most cars made after 2000 have independent rear suspension, so all four wheels need adjusting. On those cars a front end only job leaves the rear out of spec, and the car can still pull or wear tires.
Chains such as Pep Boys and Firestone sell alignment packages that cover repeat alignments over a period or mileage. A package pays off if you would align more than once in that time, for example after new tires, a pothole or new suspension parts. If you keep a car only a year or two, a one off four wheel job at about $100 to $168 is usually the cheaper choice.
What skipping it costs
An alignment is cheap next to tires. Groupon's guide puts the cost of skipping alignments at 25 to 50 percent shorter tire life, or $400 to $800 in tires bought early. Signs you need one: the car pulls to one side, the steering wheel sits off center when driving straight, or the inside or outside edge of a tire wears faster than the middle.
Why this costs more in 2026
An alignment is mostly labor on an expensive machine, and shop labor rates keep rising with every other cost a shop pays.
Fuel is the common thread. AAA's national average for diesel passed $6 a gallon for the first time on September 11, 2026, up from about $3.70 a year earlier (CBS 8 reporting AAA). Every truck roll and every delivery carries that. Some suppliers added freight surcharges this year. Ask how long your quote is good for.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Ask for the printout. A real alignment gives a before and after sheet for each wheel.
- Ask if it was two or four wheels. Pay for four only if the car can be set at the rear.
- Ask what else they found. Worn tie rods or ball joints should be shown to you, not just added.
- Compare to $100 to $168. A four wheel job far above that needs a reason.
- Ask about a recheck. Many shops recheck free within a set time.
Ways to pay less
- Book it with new tires. Many shops bundle alignment and balancing.
- Use a deal site for a routine four wheel job. Groupon deals ran about $69 to $90 in May 2026.
- Skip the dealer for a car out of warranty.
- Buy a package only if you will align more than once in its term.
