How Much Does an Ultrasound Cost Without Insurance in 2026?

An ultrasound costs about $300 in cash in 2026, and the range runs from about $115 to $1,000 or more. That is a wide gap, and it comes down to two things. One is the type of ultrasound. The other is where you go. A hospital charges more than a standalone imaging center for the same ultrasound. GoodRx says ultrasounds in a hospital cost more than in imaging centers. The cash prices we found show the low end. Penrad, an imaging provider, lists a soft tissue head and neck ultrasound at $197.40 and a one sided breast ultrasound at $121.80 in its March 2024 cash price list. Atlantic Medical Imaging lists an ultrasound at $225 per body part, and a pelvis and transvaginal ultrasound at $450, effective January 1, 2026. HonorHealth, a hospital system, lists a complete abdominal ultrasound at $148 if you pay in full ahead of time and $192 if you pay on the day. Its average estimated total for the same exam is $295. Radiology Assist, a program that books low cost scans for people with no insurance, says ultrasound prices start at $115 for most body parts. That is a starting price at partner centers, so yours may be higher. Some types cost more. GoodRx, using MDsave data, lists a routine fetal ultrasound at $459, a carotid ultrasound at $774, and a specialized fetal ultrasound at $954 as national averages. GoodRx says the average self pay ultrasound is about $400, and that it can run from $200 to $1,000 or more. Remember that a quoted ultrasound price often covers the exam only. The doctor who reads the images, called a radiologist, may send a second bill. HonorHealth says its prices do not include professional fees for hospital based radiologists. This page shows the cash prices we read, what moves the price, and what you can do to pay less. It is a cost guide only. It does not tell you whether to get an ultrasound. Your own doctor can speak to that. Use these numbers to compare prices and ask good questions before you book.
