What changes your price
- Your soil and site. Hill Country and Central Texas cost more, at $13,000 to $22,000, because of limestone. The Gulf Coast and East Texas run $10,000 to $15,000.
- Your state rules. Some states need spray or drip distribution, which adds cost.
- Rocky ground. Dillon Septic says hard digging can add $1,500 to $4,500.
- Electric power. The system needs a dedicated power line. Utah installers say $500 to $1,500 for the electrician.
- Size. Bigger homes need bigger systems.
- The installer. Local rates and how many installers are nearby change the price.
The real cost is the running cost
The Septic Guide explains that an aerobic system uses an electric air pump to add oxygen and clean the water more, so it can meet rules that a conventional system cannot. SepticTankHub says that is why it is often the only legal choice in states like Texas and Florida, where soil is poor or the rules are strict.
Then you pay to run it. Most states require a service contract with a licensed provider. The Septic Guide puts contracts at $200 to $600 a year, plus $60 to $180 for electricity. Texas Septic Guide puts the Texas contract at $300 to $500, electricity at $100 to $300 and pumping at $250 to $400, for $600 to $1,100 a year in all. SepticTankHub adds $50 to $150 a year for chlorine tablets and puts total running cost at $75 to $175 a month. It estimates 10 years of ownership at $25,000 to $40,000, while Texas Septic Guide says $17,000 to $30,000 in Texas.
Dillon Septic says a full Texas install with a spray or drip field can run $17,000 to $26,000, and that many installers include the first year of the contract.
