A business owner's policy costs $80 to $83 a month at the median in 2026
A business owner's policy, or BOP, bundles general liability with property coverage. Progressive Commercial says its new customers in 2025 paid a median of $80 a month. Insureon's customers paid a median of $83 a month, or $990 a year. The Hartford says its customers average $141 a month.

What small businesses pay for a BOP, by insurer
| Progressive, new customers 2025 (median) | $80 a month |
|---|---|
| Insureon, small businesses (median) | $83 a month, $990 a year |
| The Hartford, its customers (average) | $141 a month |
| For comparison: general liability alone, Insureon median | $45 a month |
The Hartford's number is an average, so a few big policies pull it up. It is not a median like the other two. What changes your price
- Property value. More equipment, stock or space to cover raises the price.
- Your work. Riskier work costs more to cover, as with general liability.
- Limits and deductible. Higher limits cost more; a higher deductible costs less.
- Staff and revenue. A bigger business has more to insure.
What a BOP includes
The Hartford describes a BOP as three coverages in one: general liability, commercial property and business income, which helps if you have to close after a covered loss. Buying them together usually costs less than buying them one by one.
A BOP does not cover your workers' injuries, your work vehicles or mistakes in professional advice. Those need workers comp, commercial auto and E&O.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Ask what property is covered and for how much.
- Ask if business income coverage is included.
- Ask the deductible for property claims.
- Check the liability limits meet your lease.
Ways to pay less
- Only insure property at what it would cost to replace.
- Ask for a higher property deductible you can afford.
- Get quotes from more than one insurer.
How we got these numbers
Every number on this page comes from an insurer's own page, from what its customers really paid. We use the median when the insurer gives one. The median is the middle price: half of buyers paid less and half paid more. An average can be pulled up by a few very expensive policies, so we show it only as a second number. Where two insurers give a median, the range above runs from the lower one to the higher one. We do not add our own guesses, and this page has no calculator because no insurer publishes how each choice moves the price. All numbers were checked on September 26, 2026.
