A forearm tattoo costs about $150 to $1,200 in 2026
A forearm tattoo costs about $150 to $1,200 in 2026. Small to medium designs run $150 to $600, larger or detailed pieces can reach $700 to $2,500 or more, and a half sleeve costs about $1,000 to $3,000. You pay for the artist's time, so detail and size change the price most.

What changes your price
- Size. Bigger designs take more hours.
- Detail. Sortra says fine lines, minimal symbols and simple lettering cost the least. Realism, color and full wrap pieces cost more.
- Inner or outer forearm. Neebol says whether the design covers the inner or outer forearm, or wraps around, changes the quote.
- Tricky spots. Sortra says a design near the elbow ditch or the wrist bone can cost more.
- The artist. Senior artists charge more per hour.
- Your city. Studios in big cities charge more.
How forearm tattoos are priced
Sortra says most studios use hourly rates, flat rates or a minimum charge. Hourly rates run $100 to $250 or more, and a studio minimum is often $80 to $150 even for a tiny tattoo. Flat rates fit small pieces with a clear scope, like a short script line.
Bigger pieces are priced by time. Tattoo Studio Pro says a half sleeve is usually 8 to 15 hours spread over 2 to 4 sessions. As an example, an artist at $150 an hour with a 10 hour estimate lands near $1,500 before the tip. It says a full sleeve takes 20 to 40 or more hours over four to eight sessions.
Sleeve numbers differ a lot. Tattoo Studio Pro puts a half sleeve at $500 to $1,500, Neebol at $1,000 to $3,000 and Inkpedia at $1,500 to $4,000. That is why your own artist's hour estimate matters more than any guide. How to judge the price you are quoted
- Ask if the price is hourly, flat or a range.
- Ask how many hours and sessions the artist expects.
- Ask if the drawing time and a touch up are included.
- Bring a clear idea of the size and where it sits on your arm.
- Compare with $150 to $600 for small to medium designs.
Ways to pay less
- Pick a simple design. Fine line, small symbols and lettering cost the least, says Sortra.
- Ask about flash designs the artist has already drawn.
- Start with a smaller piece and build later.
- Ask if the price is per session so you can pace the cost.
- Do not chase a very low price. A fix or cover up costs more.
How we got these numbers
Tattoo studios set their own prices. The ranges come from 2026 tattoo guides, as dated below. The sources disagree on sleeves, and we show that. We do not add our own guesses. All numbers were checked on September 28, 2026.
