A pre purchase RV inspection costs about $400 to $1,500 in 2026. A travel trailer or other towable usually costs $350 to $600, because it has no engine to check. A certified NRVIA inspector often charges $700 to $1,500, and a big motorhome can cost more.

The spread is wide because inspectors set their own prices. A cheap check by a mechanic is not the same as a full report. What changes your price
- The RV type. RV Help says a motorhome costs more than a travel trailer because there are more systems.
- The size. RV Help says a 45 foot Class A takes more time than a 22 foot Class B.
- The inspection level. RV Trek says its Essential package for small trailers covers 45 percent of the points in its Premier package.
- Add ons. Fluid analysis of oil, transmission and coolant costs extra, per RV Help and RV Trek.
- Location. RV Help says inspectors may charge travel fees if the RV is far away.
- Age and condition. Older or complex rigs take longer.
What is checked, and why it pays
RV Help says a full pre purchase inspection covers the chassis, electrical and plumbing, appliances, slide outs, leveling jacks, roof and seals, and gives you a written report with photos to use at the negotiating table. RVing Know How says large motorhomes usually have diesel engines and cannot go on a normal shop lift, so you may need a diesel mechanic.
The fee is small next to the risk. RVshare says a $500 to $1,000 inspection is small next to $5,000 to $20,000 or more in fixes for a roof leak, frame damage or electrical problems. Cozy Camper gives an example: a $65,000 used motorhome with a $15,000 roof problem found only after the sale.
Camper Report, in a 2022 guide, says an inspection can take from about 3 to 8 hours. RVshare says a state safety inspection, where required, is much cheaper and only checks the legal minimum. - For a towable, you do not need engine or drivetrain checks, so it costs less.
- Hire an inspector near the RV to avoid travel fees.
- Compare a few certified inspectors on the same level.
- Skip fluid analysis on a trailer, since it has no engine.
