A fire extinguisher inspection costs about $15 to $40 per extinguisher in 2026
An annual fire extinguisher inspection costs about $15 to $40 per extinguisher in 2026 for most businesses. If you only have one or two, you will likely pay $40 to $120, because most companies charge a minimum for the visit. The 6 year service and pressure tests cost more.

What a fire extinguisher inspection costs
| Annual check, per unit | $15 to $40 |
|---|---|
| Texas average, per unit | $15 to $50 |
| Visit for 1 extinguisher | $40 to $120 |
| Visit for 10 extinguishers | $200 to $300 |
| Minimum visit charge | $50 to $150 |
| Monthly check by a company, per unit | $3 to $10 |
| 6 year service, per unit | $25 to $80 |
| Recharge, per unit | $15 to $50 |
| Pressure test, per unit | $25 to $75 |
The visit fee is the biggest thing that changes your price. The more extinguishers you have, the less each one costs. What changes your price
- How many you have. The visit fee is split across units, so more units means a lower price each.
- The type. Kitchen and special units cost more to check than common ABC units.
- The service. A yearly check costs less than the 6 year service or a pressure test.
- Replacements. Units that fail must be recharged or replaced.
- Your city. New York City costs 30 to 50 percent more than rural areas.
Why one extinguisher can cost as much as ten
FireInspected says the biggest price driver is not the extinguisher, it is the service call. A building with 2 units and a building with 100 units need the same trained tech and the same truck. With a $100 visit charge plus $25 a unit, 2 extinguishers work out to $75 each. With 100 units at $15 each, the same visit works out to about $16 each.
That is why Ironclad Fire Protection says one extinguisher should start at $80 to $120 a year, while ten should start closer to $200 to $300. In New York City, Total Fire Protection says most companies charge a $80 to $150 minimum per visit, and only FDNY approved companies can tag extinguishers.
Skipping it can cost far more. Firetron says the top federal OSHA fine for one serious violation in 2026 is $16,550. Other costs for a safe business
Fire safety is one of several costs of running a business. Most small businesses also carry a business owners policy or general liability insurance.
If staff get hurt at work, workers comp insurance pays for it. See those pages for 2026 prices.
How to judge the price you are quoted
- Ask if the price is per unit, per visit or both.
- Ask if tags and paperwork are included.
- Ask what a recharge or new unit costs if one fails.
- Ask if the tech is certified for your city or state.
- Compare with $15 to $40 per unit, or $40 to $120 for a single unit.
Ways to pay less
- Have your own staff do the monthly visual checks. They cost nothing when done in house.
- Book the inspection on the same visit as your sprinkler or alarm check.
- Team up with a nearby business to share one visit fee.
- Keep units in good shape so they do not need a recharge.
- Get quotes from 2 or 3 fire protection companies.
