Looker costs about $60,000 to $150,000 a year
Looker is Google Cloud's software for dashboards and data reports. Google does not publish a price list. The Standard edition starts around $60,000 to $66,600 a year, Enterprise about $132,000, and Embed about $180,000 to $198,000. Contract data from 355 deals puts the average at about $150,000 a year. The data warehouse it runs on is billed separately.

What pushes a quote up
| Edition | Standard, Enterprise and Embed differ by API limits. |
|---|---|

| Warehouse | BigQuery or other warehouse costs are billed separately. |
| Developers | LookML skills are needed to build models. |
| Yearly rise | About 5 percent a year is standard. |
The warehouse bill is separate
Looker does not store your data. It sends queries to a data warehouse, such as Google BigQuery, and that warehouse bills you for every query. One estimate puts BigQuery compute at $2,000 to $20,000 a month, depending on how much data you query.
So price the two together. Ask how many queries your dashboards will run, and whether results are cached. A busy dashboard that refreshes every few minutes can cost more in warehouse fees than the Looker licence itself.
Why the price is hidden
Software sold this way is priced by the sales team, not by a price list. The rep learns your size, your budget and how badly you need it, then builds a quote. Two companies the same size often pay different amounts for the same product. That is why the numbers on this page come from buyers and analysts, not from the vendor.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Estimate the warehouse bill alongside the Looker quote.
- Ask for the all in number: licence, setup, training and support for year one.
- Ask what renewal looks like in year two and three, in writing.
- Get a second quote from a rival and say so on the call.
- Buy at quarter end, when reps chase targets.
- Cut seats and modules you will not use in the first 90 days.
Ways to pay less
- Cache dashboards so they do not query the warehouse every time.
- Pay yearly if the discount is real, not just a rounding of the monthly price.
- Start on the lowest tier and upgrade when you hit a wall.
- Ask for the setup fee to be waived or split over the year.
- Check the free trial or demo before you sign anything.
Before you decide
Looker needs people who know LookML, its modelling language. If you do not have them, you will pay a partner or train your own. Budget for that alongside the licence.
The yearly rise is about 5 percent by default, but it can often be waived with a multi year deal. Ask for that in writing before you sign.
One last tip: ask whether viewer seats are cheaper than standard seats. Most people only view dashboards, so the seat mix changes the bill a lot.
A final point: compare editions honestly. Standard includes far fewer API calls than Enterprise or Embed. If you only need internal dashboards, Standard may be enough. Only pay for Embed if you truly plan to show dashboards to your own customers.
Ask for the API limits of each edition in writing before you choose.
