It does not include tax or extras the provider adds on the day.

Who charges this and how it is billed

Costco sells Interstate brand batteries to members, and the price is set per battery. The core charge is added at the register and refunded when you return your old battery. Costco does not install, so there is no labor charge from them. If you have a shop or a store install it, that is billed on its own. Clark Howard says Walmart charges $15 to install any battery. How to tell you need it

A weak battery makes the engine crank slowly or not start at all. Lights may look dim, and the dash may show a battery light. Corrosion on the posts is another sign. • Install it yourself if you can. Costco does not install, and a shop may charge for it.
• Use a low cost install. Clark Howard says Walmart installs any battery for $15.
• Check your group size first, so you buy the right one. Costco has a battery finder at the tire desk.
• Compare with other stores before you buy. Jalopnik lists $210 at O'Reilly for a similar Camry battery against $125 at Costco.

Why this costs more in 2026

Shop labor now runs about $100 to $250 an hour. Many car parts are imported, and freight costs went up after the oil shock that began with the Iran war in February 2026. Steel, copper, aluminum and resin prices are up too, and they go into almost every part. Newer cars often need AGM batteries, which cost more than standard ones, so battery bills stay high in 2026.
