What changes your price
- Film type. The film drives most of the price. Ceramic costs the most.
- Vehicle size. More and bigger windows mean more film and labor.
- Old tint. Stripping faded or bubbling film adds labor.
- Windshield. A clear heat blocking windshield film is extra.
- Warranty. Better films often come with a lifetime warranty.
- Your state. Tint laws limit how dark the front windows can be.
Dyed, carbon and ceramic film
VinylFrog says the film makes up 60 to 70 percent of the price, and that two films with the same darkness can block very different amounts of heat. It says good ceramic film blocks up to 99 percent of UV rays and cuts cabin heat by more than half.
Detailing Cost says most drivers pay around $400 for a full car. It says dyed film at $150 to $250 blocks little heat and tends to fade or turn purple in 3 to 5 years. Carbon film at $250 to $450 does not fade and lasts 7 to 10 years. Ceramic film at $400 to $800 blocks the most heat and lasts well over a decade without hurting phone or GPS signals. Chariotz adds that metal films can weaken cell, GPS and key fob signals, which is why many shops have moved away from them.
Luxury Glass Tinting says the front two windows alone cost about $100 to $300, stripping old film adds $100 to $250, and a clear ceramic windshield film adds $200 to $500.
