Why the first visit costs more than the exam
The exam is the dentist's check of your teeth, gums, bite and jaw, plus an oral cancer screening. Pearl notes it is billed apart from X-rays and the cleaning, even though all three usually happen at the same visit. So a new patient visit often adds up to several hundred dollars without insurance.
