Hydro jetting costs $350 to $600 for most homes in 2026
The national average is about $475. A simple, easy to reach drain can start near $100. A main sewer line runs $350 to $1,100, with $500 to $800 the most common band. Heavy roots, long lines and high cost cities push it to $1,800.

Cost by line
| Kitchen, tub or other branch drain | $300 to $700. One California plumber reports $350 to $900. |
|---|---|
| Main sewer line | $350 to $1,100. Most homes pay $500 to $800. Yelp reports $200 to $550 in lower cost areas and up to $1,000 elsewhere. |
| Main line in a high cost metro | $600 to $1,800. |
| Full service cleaning of the system | $600 to $1,000. |
| Commercial property | $500 to $2,500 or more. |
| Camera inspection | $125 to $750. It costs more when there is no cleanout and a toilet must be pulled for access. |
| Snaking, for comparison | $150 to $275 for a sink and $200 to $500 for a sewer line. |
| Plumber labor | $45 to $200 per hour. |
What pushes a quote up
| Which line | Branch drains are short and easy. The main line is long, buried and takes bigger equipment. |
|---|---|
| Access | A cleanout in the yard or basement keeps the price down. No cleanout means pulling a toilet or going through the roof vent. |
| What is in the pipe | Grease and sludge clear fast. Tree roots need special nozzles and more passes. |
| Length | Most home sewer lines are 50 to 150 feet. Longer lines take longer to clean. |
| Timing | An emergency call on a night or weekend costs more. |
Hydro jetting cost by region
| Lower cost states | $280 to $475. Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia and most rural areas. |
|---|---|
| Average cost states | $350 to $600. Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and most mid size cities. |
| Higher cost states | $450 to $775. California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington, plus big metros such as Chicago, Denver and Washington DC. |
These rows are our estimate. We took the typical national range and adjusted it for local labor costs, which run about 20 percent lower in the cheapest states and about 30 percent higher in the dearest ones. Homes with older clay or cast iron sewer lines and big trees need jetting the most, which describes much of the Northeast, the Midwest and older West Coast neighborhoods.
Jetting or snaking, and the step that protects you
A drain snake pokes a hole through a clog. Water flows again, and the grease, sludge or roots that caused the clog are still stuck to the pipe wall. That is why the same drain backs up again a few months later. Hydro jetting sends water down the line at about 1,500 to 4,000 PSI through a nozzle that sprays forward and backward. It scrubs the whole inside of the pipe clean.
So the choice is simple. A first clog in a sink: snake it for $150 to $275. A main line that has backed up two or three times: jet it. You pay two or three times as much once, and you stop paying for repeat visits.
The camera comes first
This is the step that matters most on an older house. High pressure water is safe in a sound pipe. In a pipe that is already cracked, it can finish the job. Yelp's cost guide puts it bluntly: jetting a damaged pipe can turn a job that costs $1,000 or less into a sewer line replacement of $20,000 or more. A camera inspection for $125 to $750 shows the plumber whether the pipe can take it, and shows you what was actually in there.
Why the guides disagree
Angi says $350 to $600. HomeGuide says $600 to $1,400. Plumbers who publish their own prices land in between. The difference is what is being cleaned. Lower figures mix in quick branch drain jobs. Higher figures are main sewer lines with a camera inspection included. When you compare quotes, compare the line, the length and whether the camera is part of the price.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Ask which line they are jetting and how many feet.
- Ask if a camera inspection is included. Before and after is best.
- Ask to see the video. It shows roots, grease, a sag or a break. Each one points to a different next step.
- Ask what pressure they will use on old pipe. Clay and cast iron call for a gentler setting.
- Be careful with very low prices. Jetting takes costly equipment and training. Ask if the price is for a jetter or for a snake.
Ways to pay less
- Find or install a cleanout. Easy access is the biggest price cut there is, on this visit and every later one.
- Snake a first clog. Save jetting for clogs that keep coming back.
- Book it before it is an emergency. Slow drains through the house are the warning. A scheduled weekday visit avoids the after hours rate.
- Ask about a maintenance price. If roots are the cause they will grow back, and some plumbers discount repeat visits.

How much does hydro jetting cost?
$350 to $600 for most homes in 2026, about $475 on average. Main sewer lines run $350 to $1,100.
Is hydro jetting worth it?
For clogs that keep returning, yes. It cleans the whole pipe wall, where a snake only opens a hole through the blockage.
Can hydro jetting damage pipes?
It can damage pipes that are already cracked or collapsing. That is why a camera inspection should come first on older lines.
How much does it cost to snake a drain instead?
$150 to $275 for a sink drain and $200 to $500 for a sewer line.
How often should a sewer line be jetted?
Only when needed for most homes. Where tree roots are the cause they grow back, so ask the plumber what schedule the camera video suggests.
