Private vocational schools cost about $10,000 to $18,000, which is where most students land. Premium or big name schools cost $15,000 to $25,000 or more. Its own model charges no tuition, only $149 a month in fees, for under $2,000 in total.
Natural Healers quotes a leader at a national massage group who has seen community college programs as low as $5,000 to $7,000, and one year programs as high as $20,000.
Watch the fees. Alpha School of Massage says many students pay $2,000 to $4,000 more than the listed tuition once registration, lab and supply fees are added. It also notes the Bureau of Labor Statistics median pay for massage therapists is $55,310 a year, which helps you weigh a loan.
Thervo says pay after school depends on where you work. Spa staff earn about $15 to $25 an hour plus tips, while jobs in hospitals and physical therapy clinics pay about $35,000 to $55,000 a year. Lessons.com adds that longer, pricier programs teach extra skills like sports massage and trigger point therapy, which can lead to better paid work.
