What changes your price
- Training hours. States ask for different hours. More hours means more tuition.
- Federal aid. Schools that take federal aid tend to cost more, but you can get grants and loans there.
- The kit. Some schools include it. Others sell it on top, for $200 to $2,500.

Real school prices in 2026
Beyond Cosmetology looked at prices from 176 California schools. For the 600 hour program, the middle price was about $7,600. Schools that take federal aid had a middle price near $10,600, and cash pay schools near $6,000. Beyond lists its own full price as $11,206.50. It adds that the California board charges $115 for the esthetician exam, which also covers your application and first license.
In Michigan, the David Pressley School lists $12,000 for 750 hours. Students pay $6,000 when they sign and $6,000 when they reach 375 hours. In Indiana, Rudae's School of Beauty Culture runs a 900 hour program and puts most schools at $6,000 to $15,000 in total.
A lower price is not always cheaper. Beyond warns that a school that sells the kit separately can close most of the gap without saying so up front. GlossGenius says a kit bought on its own can cost $200 to $2,500, and license fees add $100 to $300. Add these to any tuition price before you compare two schools side by side.
