Termite treatment costs $250 to $2,500 for most homes in 2026
The average is about $1,500. The termite cost to treat depends on the method. A spot treatment is $200 to $1,000. A liquid barrier around the house is $1,000 to $3,200. Bait stations are $1,500 to $3,000 plus yearly fees. Tenting for drywood termites is $1,200 to $3,800 or more.

Cost by method
| Spot treatment | $200 to $1,000. Small, found early, one area. |
|---|---|
| Liquid termiticide barrier | $1,000 to $3,200. A 2,000 square foot home with subterranean termites might be about $1,800. |
| Bait stations | $1,500 to $3,000 to install, plus annual monitoring fees. |
| Tenting (fumigation) | $1,200 to $3,800 or more. For drywood termites through the whole house. |
| Minor, moderate, severe | $250 to $500, $800 to $2,000, and $2,500 to $6,000 or more. |
| Termite inspection | $75 to $150 when you pay for it. Often free when a company is selling treatment. |
| Annual termite contract | About $100 to $300 per quarter in one guide, with inspections and retreatment included. |
What pushes a quote up
| Termite type | Subterranean termites live in the soil and get barriers or bait. Drywood termites live in the wood and often need tenting. |
|---|---|
| House size | Barriers are priced by the length of foundation. Tenting by the volume of the house. |
| How far it has spread | One area can be spot treated. Several areas need a whole house method. |
| Foundation | Slabs need drilling to reach the soil under them. |
| Warranty and renewals | The yearly renewal is where the long term cost is. |

These rows are our estimate. We took the typical national range and adjusted it for local labor costs, which run about 20 percent lower in the cheapest states and about 30 percent higher in the dearest ones. The Southeast, Gulf Coast and California see the most termite work. Drywood termites are mainly a coastal and southern problem.
Why the averages range from $572 to $1,500
This Old House, in a 2024 guide, puts the average at $572. HomeAdvisor data puts most small, local jobs at $230 to $900 and whole home work at $2,500 or more. A 2026 pricing guide for pest control businesses puts most residential jobs at $1,200 to $2,500 with an average near $1,500. They are measuring different mixes of jobs.
A spot treatment on one door frame and a full liquid barrier around a house are both called termite treatment. When a company quotes you, find out which one it is. If they found termites in one place, ask why the whole house needs treating. Sometimes it does, because termites you can see are the edge of a larger colony. Sometimes it is an upsell.
The renewal is the real bill
Bait systems and many warranties need a yearly renewal. Over 10 years, $300 a year is $3,000, which can be more than the first treatment. Ask what the renewal costs, what it covers, and whether it pays for damage or only for retreatment.
Why this costs more in 2026
Pest control is a route business with many stops a day, and liquid termiticides are chemical products shipped by truck.
The short version is oil. Diesel passed $6 a gallon on the AAA national average for the first time on September 11, 2026. A year earlier it was about $3.70 (CBS 8 reporting AAA). That lands in trip charges, deliveries and anything made from petroleum. In March 2026, construction input prices were up 4.8 percent on the year, the biggest annual gain since January 2023, according to Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Associated General Contractors measured a 37.8 percent one month jump in diesel, the largest since 1990 (Roofing Contractor, April 2026). Quotes are being held open for shorter periods this year, so ask for the expiry date in writing.
How to judge the quote in your hand
- Ask which termite it is. Subterranean or drywood. The method follows.
- Ask spot or whole house. And why.
- Get the renewal cost in writing. Per year, and what it covers.
- Ask if the warranty covers damage. Many cover only retreatment.
- Get a second quote for tenting. It is the most expensive method and prices vary.
Ways to pay less
- Catch it early. A spot treatment is $200 to $1,000. A spread infestation is several times that.
- Fix moisture near the house. Leaks, mulch against the wall and wood touching soil draw termites.
- Compare barrier and bait. Barrier costs more up front. Bait costs more over time.
- Drop a renewal you do not need. If the house is dry and clean after two years, ask whether you still need it.
