Growth can be billed at full list price
Cohesity licenses a set amount of protected data. VendorBenchmark says many contracts bill any growth past that amount at the full list rate, not your discounted rate. Since backup data almost always grows, ask for growth to be priced at your negotiated rate.
Watch the minimums too. CheckThat reports a 3 node minimum, with the smallest node starting at 36 terabytes, which can be more than a small company needs. Why the price is hidden
Software sold this way is priced by the sales team, not by a price list. The rep learns your size, your budget and how badly you need it, then builds a quote. How to judge the quote in your hand
- Commit to the capacity you will need in year three, since bigger tiers cost less per terabyte.
- Ask for the all in number: licence, setup, training and support for year one.
- Ask what renewal looks like in year two and three, in writing.
- Get a second quote from a rival and say so on the call.
- Buy at quarter end, when reps chase targets.
- Cut seats and modules you will not use in the first 90 days.
Ways to pay less
- Ask for growth billed at your discounted rate, not list price.
- Pay yearly if the discount is real, not just a rounding of the monthly price.
- Start on the lowest tier and upgrade when you hit a wall.
- Ask for the setup fee to be waived or split over the year.
- Check the free trial or demo before you sign anything.
Before you decide
Cohesity suits mid-sized and large companies that want backup, fast recovery and ransomware protection in one place. Some PeerSpot reviewers say it costs less than Rubrik for similar work.
Small companies may find the 3 node minimum too large, and a simpler backup service may fit better.
