Many Infiniti models share engines, transmissions and electronics with Nissans. Independent shops that specialize in Nissan and Infiniti often use the same kind of scan tools and know the common faults well. Once the warranty ends, they are a good second quote.

CVT and the nine speed

Older QX60 models use a CVT, and shudder or slipping is a common reason owners pay for a diagnosis. The QX60 from 2022 on uses a nine speed automatic instead. Some shift problems on both are fixed with a software update, so ask if there is a known fix for your symptom first.

Fewer dealers

Infiniti has far fewer US dealers than Nissan, so the nearest one may be a long drive. That time is worth adding to the cost. For a car out of warranty, an independent shop close to home can handle most engine faults, and in the Kelley Blue Book example it saves only $10 to $12.

Before you pay

Get the fee in writing before the car goes in. Ask two things: does the fee count toward the repair if you let them fix it, and will they call you before going past the first hour. Ask for the trouble codes and test results on the repair order, so the diagnosis is yours even if you take the car somewhere else. A free code read at a parts store is not the same thing: it tells you the code, not which part failed.
